AVID Program

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an international college and career readiness program that helps middle and high school students develop the academic skills, confidence, and support needed to succeed in rigorous coursework, graduate high school, and prepare for college and future careers.

AVID Mission at Rogers High School

Our mission is to ensure college readiness for all AVID Elective students while promoting academic success for every Rogers student.

The AVID Elective Class

At the core of our AVID implementation is the AVID Elective class, which supports students enrolled in the school’s most rigorous courses, such as Advanced Placement (AP). Taught by trained AVID educators, this elective provides students with academic support, skill development, and college and career planning tools.

Role of AVID Elective Teachers

• Deliver academic and organizational skills training

• Facilitate peer tutorials

• Collaborate with other faculty and families

• Guide students in developing long-term academic and personal goals

AVID prepares students with three core competencies:

• Student Agency - Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning and future by:

• Rigorous Academic Preparedness - AVID students master skills needed to thrive in challenging coursework through:

  • Writing: Communicating and reflecting through structured writing

  • Collaboration: Working productively in groups and digital environments

  • Organization: Managing time, materials, and information

  • Reading: Analyzing texts to deepen understanding

• Opportunity Knowledge - Students develop knowledge and tools to navigate future pathways:

In 2024, Rogers High was recognized by AVID as a National Demonstration School, placing them in the top 1 percent of AVID 8,000 programs across the country.
